Message 15 {16}{5}Suddenly, from up above me, a large amount of rubble cascades down from the hole that I made in the ceiling above...^{7} Message 16 {16}{5}A large stone hits me on my head and I crash to the floor unconscious.^{7} Message 17 {16}{5}When I awake I find that my possesions are missing... even my mask has gone!^{7} Message 18 {16}{5}I see movement in the shadows to the north as something scurries away.^{7} Message 19 There are freshly made tracks in the sand that lead off north. These are not the tracks of any human being for they were made by something with six toes. Message 20 The tracks on the floor go east. Message 21 The tracks in the sand go west. Message 22 The tracks head off to the north. Message 23 There must be some way through the wall. Message 24 The creature is a {16}{5}ma'cen'ascet, {16}{6}a so-called 'cave dragon'. It is often wrongly confused with the Great Dragons and similarly hunted. Actually it is merely an underground lizard and not even winged. Its carcus is rotting and its huge mouth of teeth hangs limply open. Message 25 As I examine the creature's mouth a tooth drops out at my feet. Message 26 The tree is splendid and glows with a magical light. Its fruits are blood-red apples. Message 27 The apples look tempting and delicious... very delicious. Message 28 I reach foward and pick and apple from the tree...^{7} Message 29 Was it a trick of the light or did I see something sliver away across the floor of this cavern? Message 30 I have picked one apple that should be sufficient. Message 31 I eat the apple and discard the core.^{7} Message 32 I drink some of the water.^{7} Message 33 Suddenly I feel a tingling sensation in my body.^{7} Message 34 I become light-headed and find that my limbs move easier and my muscles cease to ache...^{7} Message 35 I am not sure what has happened to my body and if it is good but I have no way of reversing what I have done. Message 36 I do not feel like a drink now. Message 37 As I walk down the tunnel I grow increasingly uneasy...^{7} Message 38 Suddenly the ground in front of me erupts!^{7} Message 39 The huge slithering body of a {16}{5}tran'karg {16}{6}surfaces... I keep my distance, even though I know that it will not harm me, it's taste is only for rock.^{7} Message 40 The {16}{5}tran'karg {16}{6}turns and bites into the wall to the west, its acid venom sends a vile stench around the cavern and I realise, with horror, that I recognise the smell.^{7} Message 41 My last thoughts were of the basic chemical skills I was taught as part of my training for the {16}{5}Zua'creis{16}{6} and of the poisoness gases we were told about when mixing acid and rocks... I had never encountered them in this quantity before.^{7} Message 42 As I journey further to the south the passage becomes increasingly narrower.^{7} Message 43 The ground is rough and covered in many rocks making progress difficult.^{7} Message 44 Suddenly I stumble foward and crash to the floor. With a huge rumble the ceiling of the passage collapses and I am buried in the rubble.^{7} Message 45 I am trapped here for eternity... for no-one dies of old age in these caves.^{7} Message 46 The passage doesn't look safe. Message 47 I walk foward with my arms open wide, palms upwards, as a gesture of peace.^{7} Message 48 I say, {16}{5}"Ma ent't al trelim."^{7} Message 49 The tribesman doesn't seem to understand and with lightning quickness he strikes me across the face and knocks me to the floor.^{7} Message 50 I black out and when I come around...^{7} Message 51 On the path below me I can see a tribesman. Message 52 I don't think that would accomplish much. Message 53 I throw the stone at the tribesman and it hits him on his head. He falls to the ground. Message 54 I jump from the ledge and land on the tribesman knocking him down onto the hard cavern floor.^{7} Message 55 When I get up I am horrified to find that he is dead... he must have hit his head hard on the cavern floor. Message 56 I don't fancy jumping onto the hard cavern floor. Message 57 The tribesman does not see me up here. Message 58 The tribesman is dead. Message 59 On his body a find a small key. Message 60 The plants block my view of most of the wall. Message 61 Behind the plants I find a small keyhole and the outline of a door in the rockface. Message 62 The keyhole is quite small. Message 63 I don't understand it, from the looks of the tribesman I encountered earlier they should not be able to construct a door like this. Message 64 I insert the key into the keyhole and give it a turn, the door opens with a sharp click... Message 65 What Message 66 door? Message 67 keyhole? Message 68 The {16}{5}delm'ler'k {16}{5}{16}{6}plant preys on small animals but, thankfully, not anything as large as me. Message 69 Using the tooth I slice a vine off the plant and pick it up. Message 70 I have done that once. Message 71 I have nothing to cut a vine free with. Message 72 The vine is attached to the plant. Message 73 {16}{5}As I walk to the east the ground collapses beneath me... Message 74 I move aside some of the brown mosses and discover that there is a pit, a trap, underneath them. Message 75 What about the pit? Message 76 I don't think it would be wise to jump over the pit. Message 77 I'd never get back out of the pit. Message 78 I hammer the tooth into the ground using the stone. Message 79 I can't pull the tooth out, it's hammered into the ground too firmly. Message 80 The tooth is hammered into the ground. Message 81 I tie the vine to the tooth and let it dangle into the pit. Message 82 Why? Message 83 The vine has been tied to the tooth and it dangles into the pit below. Message 84 I untie the vine and pick it up. Message 85 I have nothing heavy enough to hammer the tooth into the ground with. Message 86 There is nothing to tie the vine to. Message 87 I will have to untie the vine first. Message 88 I climb down the vine into the pit...^{7} Message 89 I climb out of the pit using the vine... Message 90 As I climbed out of the pit the {16}{5}mab'ler {16}{5}{16}{6}climbed from the pocket in my robes and scurried away across the floor. Message 91 ^{7}{16}{6}Above me, several heads appear and look down into the pit.^{7} Message 92 There is a lot of excitement when they spot me. Eventually I am dragged from the pit, at spearpoint, and bound with coarse ropes.^{7} Message 93 The tribesmen take me back to their village. Message 94 From behind the boulders tribesmen spring out and surround me.^{7} Message 95 They jab at me with their spears and I am forced to let them bind me.^{7} Message 96 I can't move! I'm tied up! Message 97 ^{7}I hear a scurrying noise behind me. I manage to turn my head enough to see that it is a small rodent. In fact, it looks like the one I rescued from the pit.^{7} Message 98 It comes closer to me and looks at me with intelligent eyes. It takes a hold of the rope with its teeth and starts to gnaw at it.^{7} Message 99 After a short while it has bitten completely through the rope and I am free.^{7} Message 100 The rodent scurries away out of the hut.^{7} Message 101 Death. Message 102 On the block I find a figurine and pick it up. Message 103 The statue is of a humanoid figure wearing a mask and carrying a staff... a wizard? Message 104 One of the planks that go to make up the walls of the hut is loose. Message 105 I pull the plank and with a load groan it comes free...^{7} Message 106 Under the bed I find a knife and pick it up. Message 107 In one of the hollows in the rockface there is a small nest. Message 108 In the nest is an egg. Message 109 The nest is empty. Message 110 The 'lilly-pads' are very thick and spongy. They float well on the water and would appear to be able to support quite a bit of weight without sinking. Each one is attached to the main plant by a stem. Message 111 I cut one of the pads free using the knife. Message 112 There is a lilly-pad floating freely on the water here. Message 113 I am on a lilly-pad. Message 114 At the moment it seems a bit pointless getting onto the lilly-pad as I have nothing to row the pad across the lake with. Message 115 I climb onto the lilly and, using the plank as an oar, row it out onto the lake. Message 116 I'm not dropping anything in the middle of the lake! Message 117 There is a disturbance in the water ahead... Message 118 As I step onto the shore the lilly pad floats away... Message 119 I have nothing to cut the lilly-pad free with. Message 120 I can't swim. Message 121 {16}{5}In the figurine is stored the spell:-^{7} Message 122 The {16}{5}delm'quo {16}{6}crashes down onto my makeshift raft, and although I dive to one side to escape it's slashing jaws I end up in the water.^{7} Message 123 I can't swim and so death is certain. It only remains to be see whether I drown or die ripped to shreads by the jaws of the {16}{5}delm'quo. {16}{6}Neither is pleasant, but then nor is death...^{7} Message 124 I raise the figurine aloft and shout out the word {16}{5}INCEN. {16}{5}{16}{6}The figurine glows and fire springs from out of the jaws of the dragon!^{7} Message 125 The fire strikes the {16}{5}delm'quo {16}{6}in the centre of the face and it screams in agony.^{7} Message 126 It dives for safety under the cool waters of the lake. Although {16}{5}delm'quo{16}{6} are not very intelligent they do learn from past mistakes. It will not bother me again. Message 127 The figurine crumbles to dust, its magic has all been used up. Message 128 Cast the spell at what? Message 129 I should be heading across the lake, not back to the village as the villagers will no doubt be awake by now and looking for me. Message 130 Several tribesmen enter the room and untie me. They roughly force me to my feet and drag me from the hut. Message 131 The tribesmen tie me to the stake.^{7} Message 132 A robed tribesman enters from the west. He carries a wooden figurine of a dragon in one hand and a ceremonial robe in the other.^{7} Message 133 As he nears me he speaks, and I realise with astonishment that he uses the higher tongue.^{7} Message 134 {16}{5}"Oh great one," {16}{5}{16}{6}he says, {16}{5}"Whom we have vowed to serve and protect, we offer you a sacrifice, an infiltrator of your lands."^{7} Message 135 He raises the dragon aloft, {16}{5}"May you see this as an indication of our loyalty and continue to bless us."^{7} Message 136 He turns to face me, {16}{5}"In the name of ANALTON I sentance you to death by fire."^{7} Message 137 Analton? He was the person I am looking for, how is he connected with this underground village? But I have no time to investigate for the tribesman holds the dragon with both hands and says the word, {16}{5}"INCEN!"^{7} Message 138 Of course, he is not a true wizard and so he is unable to control the spell that was stored within the confines of the {16}{5}lar'zu {16}{5}{16}{6}figurine, but he achieves the desired effect for a bolt of fire shoots from the dragon's mouth and ignites the wood around me.^{7} Message 139 Heat rips into my clothes and sears my flesh. The pain is unbearable... death comes as a relief.^{7} Message 140 {16}{5}E glie'st del ur'fut rue'ud'emond Message 141 I am in a honeycomb of tunnels. Message 142 I can go to the Message 143 north, east, west and Message 144 north and Message 145 north, east and Message 146 north, west and Message 147 north and east. Message 148 north and west. Message 149 east and Message 150 west and Message 151 north, east and west. Message 152 east and west. Message 153 south. Message 154 I double back and run straight into a group of tribesmen.^{7} Message 155 The tribesmen have caught up with me.^{7} Message 156 I have run into a group of tribesmen.^{7} Message 157 They knock me unconcious and take me back to their village.^{7} Message 158 When I awake I find myself in the centre of their village. Message 159 Oh no! I have come up against a dead end. The tribesmen rush into the cave behind me.^{7} Message 160 Suddenly, there is a loud bang and a figure appears in front of me. This has a profound effect on the tribesmen behind. They drop to their knees and start chanting.^{7} Message 161 {16}{5}"Analton! Analton!" {16}{5}{16}{6}they say. I look at the figure closely and see that it is dressed in a zuamante and wears the mask of a wizard.^{7} Message 162 He raises his hands and shouts, {16}{5}"BEWRE!" {16}{6}and the surroundings melt away and then suddenly reform.^{7} Message 163 west. Message 164 The tribesmen have almost caught up with me! Message 165 It sparkles and glistens strangely. Message 166 It looks like there is something behind the plants. Message 167 I only just managed to pull the tooth out of the ground. Message 168 The vine is tied to the tooth. Message 169 Had you been playing the finished adventure then you would've now found yourself crumbling to dust... you really shouldn't have consumed anything within the caves! Message 170 Thanks for playing through this adventure. I hope it has been an enjoyable experience. Message 171 I pit seems quite deep but it is too dark to see the bottom properly. Message 172 The hut to the south is where I was imprisoned. The other two look similar in design. Message 173 The hut to the west looks in a lot worse condition than the hut to the south. The path to the hut to the east seems well travelled. Message 174 The hut to the north is highly decorated, suggesting it is a place of significance. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- SYSTEM MESSAGES --------------- System Message 0 It's too dark to see anything. Wierd flora bloom and a whole spectrum of coloured mosses coat both the floor and the rocks here. There is a single tree-like plant here in the centre of this cave with leaves the colour of sapphires and fruit of an intense blood red. Exits are visible to the south and the west.^{7} Location 9 ^{7}{16}{5}E ruemond^{7}{16}{6}The passage suddenly slopes downwards to the north here while to the east is a cavern.^{7} Location 10 ^{7}{16}{5}E pert'patz^{7}{16}{6}I am standing in a small chamber. There is a ledge several feet above me to my left. Exits are to the north and to the south.^{7} Location 11 ^{7}{16}{5}E ur'fut'ruemond^{7}{16}{6}The passage meanders one way then the other here and slinks off to the east and the south.^{7} Location 12 ^{7}{16}{5}Al las ur'fut'ruemond^{7}{16}{6}I am in a passage which turns abruptly north here. I can also go west.^{7} Location 13 ^{7}{16}{5}E fut'si'essem spuort^{7}{16}{6}I have come up against a wall of rock here. It is covered with strange pulsating plants that hang losely to the stone and also grow in the sandy floor. The passage leads back to the south.^{7} Location 14 ^{7}{16}{5}Al las himirth ruemond^{7}{16}{6}There is a small portal leading south here from the corridor that I am standing in. This passage leads both to the east and the west. There are tracks in the sand here.^{7} Location 15 ^{7}{16}{5}Su e ur'fut'ruelle^{7}{16}{6}I have to bend over to traverse down this low ceilinged east-west running passage. Strange sounds come from the undergrowth that almost claws at my feet as I walk.^{7} Location 16 ^{7}{16}{5}Su e ur'fut'ruelle^{7}{5}{16}{6}This path is well trodden and leads east, down into a very large chamber, and also to the west.^{7} Location 17 ^{7}{16}{5}E gran'pazt^{7}{16}{6}I am standing in a large chamber with rocks and boulders around me. Exits lie to the north, east, west and south.^{7} Location 18 ^{7}{16}{5}E pert'pazt^{7}{5}{16}{6}I am in a small moss-covered chamber with exits to the east and west. There appears to be a large collection of mosses in the centre of the room but, whereas the others present seem to be bright greens and blues, these central mosses are faded and going brown in places.^{7} Location 19 ^{7}{16}{5}Al lase flutra^{7}{16}{6}I am standing in a deep shaft shrouded in darkness. It is evidently used to capture animals, though the absence of the usual spikes on the floor of the trap would seem to suggest that whoever uses it seems to prefer live or freshly killed meat.^{7} Location 20 ^{7}{16}{5}Al e ur'fut'atz^{7}{16}{6}In this cave there is evidence of rockfalls having recently occured. Indeed the ceilings of the passages to the north and south hardly look safe. A large amount of rubble lies around and buried under some rocks nearby is a creature.^{7} Location 21 ^{7}{16}{5}Al e ur'fut'atz^{7}{16}{6}I have entered a small cave from the west. Here there is a large {16}{6}{16}{5}delm'ler'k {16}{6}plant in the centre of the room, like a spider on its web. Its vines and creepers spread across the room to catch its prey.^{7} Location 22 ^{7}{16}{5}Al e pertud'loapazt^{7}{16}{6}I am inside a small hut. The hut is empty. The door leads out to the north.^{7} Location 23 ^{7}{16}{5}Al las cilte^{7}{16}{6}I am in the village with huts all around me to the north, west and south. They are marked with symbols but I can make no sense of them. The centre of the village is to the east.^{7} Location 24 ^{7}{16}{5}Al las cilte^{7}{16}{6}I am in the village with huts all around me to the north, east and south. There seems to be no visable difference between the huts save for the markings on them. The centre of the village is to the west.^{7} Location 25 ^{7}{16}{5}Al las cilte^{7}{16}{6}I am in the village with huts all around me to the east, west and south. The huts are all built exactly the same with only a few strange markings to distinguish them. To the north is the centre of the village.^{7} Location 26 ^{7}{16}{5}Al las essem'dier^{7}{16}{6}This hut appears to be some sort of temple. A large statue of a humanoid figure lies just beyond a small marble block placed centrally in the room. The door leads out to the south.^{7} Location 27 ^{7}{16}{5}Al las carlde del las cilte^{7}{16}{6}I am standing in the centre of the tribal village beside a stake hammered into the ground amongst some firewood. The various parts of the village lie to the east, west and south, while a path leads off north to the lake.^{7} Location 28 ^{7}{16}{5}Al las pazt puore si'ple^{7}{16}{6}This hut seems to be some sort of store for food. There are vegetables and other food-stuffs piled on the crude shelves here. The exit is to the west.^{7} Location 29 ^{7}{16}{5}Al e pertud'loapazt^{7}{16}{6}I have entered a hut that is occupied and have woken up its owners. They grab me and within seconds the whole tribe is awake and I am taken to the centre of the village.^{7} Location 30 ^{7}{16}{5}Al e pertud'loapazt^{7}{16}{6}This hut is empty of occupants but obviously is normally used for sleeping in as it contains a bed. The hut is in a bad state and in need of repair, which may explain why it is currently empty. The exit is to the east.^{7} Location 31 ^{7}{16}{5}Su las granruelle goase lase pertvas^{7}{16}{6}This small passage leads north down towards an underground lake and away from the village to the south.^{7} Location 32 ^{7}{16}{5}Ner lase pertvas (las cro colte)^{7}{16}{6}This is the southern bank of the lake which spreads out northwards. The village is to the south. The lake is a dark green colour and, near the bank, are some large leaves of a water plant similar to a giant lilly.^{7} Location 33 ^{7}{16}{5}Su lase cro peler delle lase pertvas^{7}{16}{6}I am on the lilly pad which is floating on the lake. I can paddle to the north, east or west.^{7} Location 34 ^{7}{16}{5}Su lase cro'p pelere delle lase pertvas^{7}{16}{6}I am on the western most part of the lake where it meets a sheer rockface. I can paddle to the north or to the east.^{7} Location 35 ^{7}{16}{5}Su lase cro'h pelere delle lase pertvas^{7}{16}{6}I am on the eastern most part of the lake where it meets a sheer rock face. I can paddle to the north or the west.^{7} Location 36 ^{7}{16}{5}Su lase pertvas^{7}{16}{6}Suddenly, in front of me, a huge monstrous head appears and nearly capsises my lilly-pad. It is a {16}{5}dealm'quo {16}{6}- a sea-demon. A huge mouth of teeth descends towards me!^{7} Location 37 ^{7}{16}{5}Su lase zu'po pelere delle lase pertvase^{7}{16}{5}{16}{6}I am on the western most part of the lake. The shore lies to the north, while to my left is the cavern wall, full of scars and hollows. The lake stretches out to the east and south.^{7} Location 38 ^{7}{16}{5}Su lase zue pelere delle lase pertvas^{7}{16}{6}I am approaching the northern part of the lake. The shore is to the north, and I can also paddle east, west and south.^{7} Location 39 ^{7}{16}{5}Su lase zu'ha pelere delle lase pertvas^{7}{16}{6}I am on the eastern most part of the lake next to the rockface that is pitted and scarred and full of hollows. To the north is the shore, while the lake is to th south and west.^{7} Location 40 ^{7}{16}{5}Ner lase pertvas (las zue colte)^{7}{16}{6}I am on the northern side of the lake. To the south I can see the tribespeople have noticed my absence and are following me, using the lilly-pads like I did, across the lake. I must move swiftly. They will soon catch up. The way to go is to the north.^{7} Location 41 Location 42 Location 43 Location 44 Location 45 Location 46 Location 47 Location 48 Location 49 Location 50 Location 51 Location 52 Location 53 Location 54 Location 55 Location 56 Location 57 Location 58 Location 59 Location 60 Location 61 Location 62 Location 63 Location 64 Location 65 Location 66 Location 67 Location 68 Location 69 Location 70 Location 71 Location 72 Location 73 Location 74 Location 75 Location 76 ^{7}I am in a small cave illuminated by the flickering red tongues of a fire in its centre. Various crudely made tables and cabinets are placed against the walls of the room. The room is filled with magical items and artifacts, strange plant roots and countless books of magic.^{7}^{7}Still groggy from the trasportation spell I slowly recover my bearings. Analton sits down in a chair next to the fire and beckons me to do likewise. I do so and he says, {16}{5}"Welcome to my home, my son." {16}{6}He is then silent for a while and gazes at the flickering firelight, the warm red glow mirrored in his mask. Location 77 I go to speak but he waves me silent. {16}{5}"I know why you're here, Zuacre, although I am secluded here I am not totally cut off from the outside world." {16}{6}He points to the large crystal ball that dominates one corner of the cave. {16}{5}"I hope that the tribe did not inconvinience you too much, they are emotinally primative but really quite intelligent."^{7}^{7}"I came across them when I first came to the caves and I accepted their proclamation of me as a god as it enabled me to help and educate them. You've no doubt seen some of the artifacts I gave them, the dragon figurine for instance?" Location 78 He doesn't wait for an answer but rather he asks me how much I know of the spell {16}{5}DECEPTION {16}{6}and of {16}{5}Malakan. {16}{6}I respond quickly.^{7}^{7}{16}{5}"Yes", {16}{6}he says, {16}{5}"That's mostly correct. Malakan is indeed seeking out the DECEPTION spell on Malheim. Over the years that he has been missing he has been forming a large following, first on Valhedia in secluded villages where his activities would not be noticed and then on many of the other populated islands. His alliance with Lamazan supplied him with troops which proved very useful in gaining control of the simple people that still lived on Malheim when he journeyed there." Location 79 {16}{5}"Now he has established a secure hold on Malheim and I have no doubt that he will suceed in his quest for the great spell if he is not stopped soon. He has gathered many, easily led, junior Zuacre there and I do not think that with their combined talents working on the problem that it will escape them for long."^{7}^{7}{16}{5}"Yes, he must be stopped for he knows of the great power the spell would give him. The task of preventing him from continuing with his quest unfortunately falls to you for I cannot leave this cave myself." Location 80 {16}{5}"Once one has entered the caves of Saleritte and ate the fruits of its plants or drank from the springs immortality is gained. But at a price, for you cannot leave the caves then. Any who attempt to will die for exposure to the outside will cause rapid aging and death within seconds."^{7}^{7}"It is best that only one zuacre, you, goes. Malakan would undoubtably sense a large number of wizards, whereas you may just slip in unnoticed. Besides, you have got this far, you have shown your worth." Location 81 {16}{5}"I will give you as much help as I can. Here are two spell books and you may have my staff, for you appear to be without one. Remember that a staff may only store four spells at once, then the lar'zu becomes saturated. Choose which spells you save and which you use carefully."^{7}^{7}{16}{6}Suddenly there is a shuffling noise and a chimpanzee like beast enters the cave. {16}{5}"This is my pet Belor," {16}{6}says Analton, {16}{5}"You have met him before. When you entered the caves he stole your mask to alert me to your presence, for I had lost sight of you in the crystal-ball when you entered Lamazan's fortress." Location 82 Analton takes the object that the chimp hands him. It is a helmet. {16}{5}"This belongs to one of Lamazan's soldiers. They must have entered the tunnels looking for you, maybe because you killed Lamazan or maybe because they have been ordered to seek you out by Malakan." {16}{5}{16}{6}He discards the helmet.^{7}^{7}{16}{5}"It is of no real importance. The tribesmen will take care of them. They have before. But it will mean that you will have to use the back exit... Belor will show you the way." Location 83 {16}{5}"Meanwhile I must go and organise the tribesmen. Here take this." {16}{6}he hands me his mask, {16}{5}"It is more fitting than your last one for a wizard of your calibre to wear. Now go. You must distance yourself from the fort and quickly find some transport off the island. Every second you stay here is one more second for Malakan to discover the spell in."^{7}^{7}{16}{6}We both leave the cave and I turn to follow the chimp. {16}{5}"Good luck, my son." {16}{5}{16}{6}says Analton, {16}{5}"For all our sakes."{16}{5} Location 84 The chimp leads me down many passages and eventually to a cavern into which daylight falls. he hovers outside, for he too can not leave the caves, and I go out alone. I climb out into the sunlight...^{7} Location 85 You have reached the end of this demo version of Deception of the Mind's Eye Part Two.
