You quickly cover your eyes but it's too late, your vision is permanently impaired. With a "{16}{3}{19}{1}blow this for a game of tennis!{16}{6}{19}{0}" (or equivalent phrase) you leave the game... Message 1 "{16}{4}{19}{1}They're to use in my next game!{16}{5}{19}{0}" he tells you. Message 2 A small corridor leads to the south, while the front of the stall is to the west. Message 3 It makes the world go round (to coin a phrase!). Message 4 It's sort of box-shaped with a small button on it. Message 5 Urgh!! Message 6 It's made out of bird seed and is held together with a type of gooey honey-like mixture. Message 7 It's of a type you usually find attached to a door frame and black in colour. Message 8 The bottle is marked '{16}{3}{19}{1}Scott Free's Highland Brew{16}{6}{19}{0}'. Examining the label closer reveals that it's '{16}{3}{19}{1}100% alcohol{16}{6}{19}{0}'. Message 9 You can't make head nor tail of the writing on it. Message 10 It's the latest edition of that 'right riveting' read '{16}{3}{19}{1}From Beneath{16}{6}{19}{0}', available from all good Balrogs. Message 11 It bears the words '{16}{3}{19}{1}Arnold's Gym{16}{6}{19}{0}' and seems to be made out in the name of '{16}{3}{19}{1}Sylvie Stallion{16}{6}{19}{0}'. Message 12 It's small, round and springy. Message 13 What are you expecting to find in it - a portable nuclear bomb, perhaps? Message 14 It contains some black ^{7}'{16}{3}{19}{1}Splodge!{16}{6}{19}{0}' spray paint. Message 15 Obviously, this was once some sort of computer. In fact, didn't Mike Gerrard used to have one? Nah! It can't be THAT old! Message 16 It looks like lead or something. Message 17 The packet of 'Smartos' is marked '{16}{3}{19}{1}Special 100th anniversary of special editions' edition{16}{6}{19}{0}' and contains a little round sweet with reading glasses on. Message 18 They are ordinary reading glasses with Message 19 clear Message 20 blackened Message 21 lenses. Message 22 It is marked with the words^{7}'{16}{3}{19}{1}A.J. Salisbury Cracker{16}{6}{19}{0}'. Message 23 It is purple and 10 sizes too big for any humanoid you've ever come across. Message 24 It's totally c**p! It reads as follows, '{16}{3}{19}{1}Q. If Tarzan and Jane were John Major and Margaret Thatcher, what is cheetah? A. A gifted child!{16}{6}{19}{0}' (chortle, chortle). Message 25 An ordinary piece of string. Message 26 It is an oil painting which shows a rather fat man carrying a battered old briefcase. Message 27 It is rather large and brightly coloured. Message 28 It is made out of twigs. Message 29 It is a copy of '{16}{3}{19}{1}Delbert The Hamster's{19}{0}{16}{6}' new game. Message 30 It is the ace of spades Message 31 . Message 32 and has a spade in the middle of it. Message 33 You carefully extract the spade from the playing card. Message 34 Yep, it's a spade alright! Message 35 The cover of this illustrious tome bears the inscription,^{7}'{16}{3}{19}{1}Spectrum Misquotes By G. Pitchford Esq.{16}{6}{19}{0}'. Message 36 How can you? You've got no money to put in the machine. Message 37 The lights start flashing on the machine and it goes haywire shooting out a load of money. Message 38 Before you know it you are surrounded by security men and taken away... Message 39 The complex's security personnel aren't too pleased with your violent moves and quickly lead you away... Message 40 A robocleaner is here, Message 41 ^{7}The robocleaner goes Message 42 south. Message 43 north. Message 44 east. Message 45 west. Message 46 ^{7}The robocleaner arrives to clean up some more of the complex. Message 47 ^{7}The robocleaner waits by the flap. There is a whirr of machinery and it lifts up allowing the cleaner to enter. It closes immediately afterwards. Message 48 ^{7}The robocleaner bends over to pick up the object you carelessly discarded onto the floor. Message 49 You climb onto the back of the robocleaner. Message 50 Scott Free doesn't recommend you do that! Message 51 ^{7}The flap opens and the robocleaner emerges. Message 52 You jump off the robocleaner and land on the floor below. Message 53 The robocleaner reaches behind him and lifts the rubbish it had stored there - as this includes you you're not too pleased with the fact that he then throws this 'rubbish' through the south flap into the furnace. Needless to say, you are scorched to death... Message 54 Not while riding! Message 55 ^{7}The robocleaner arrives to deposit his rubbish. Message 56 ^{7}The robocleaner leaves through the north flap. Message 57 ^{7}dumping some of the rubbish. Message 58 doing his job. Message 59 You give the note from Delbert to Tim. He glances at it briefly, gives a large groan, mutters something about past favours and gives you a copy of the latest edition of his mag. Before you go on, he's got some parting advice for you.^{7}"{16}{4}{19}{1}Clear off!{16}{6}{19}{0}" he says. Message 60 You give the 'Black Door' to Scott Free. "{16}{4}{19}{1}Great!{16}{6}{19}{0}" he says.^{7}"{16}{4}{19}{1}I was looking for an idea for a new game.{16}{6}{19}{0}". Keeping with the great adventuring tradition, but breaking an ancient Scottish one, he gives you an object in return. It is a bottle of his 'brew'. Message 61 It seems decades before the muscle-bound galoot realizes that the piece of card you hold signifies membership to this establishment, but when it finally gets through he waves you onwards. Message 62 A large thug glances at you,^{7}"{16}{4}{19}{1}Ere! You ain't a member.{16}{6}{19}{0}" he says. "{16}{4}{19}{1}Get out!{16}{6}{19}{0}".^{7}You would congratulate him on his powers of deduction but feeling that your sarcasm would be unappreciated by someone of his intelligence (not to mention someone with his large fists!) you decide to exit to the west (rather quickly)... Message 63 It won't budge. Message 64 You purchase one of the more edible looking hot dogs from the stall here. Message 65 You give the long-haired being a piece of lead you picked up on your travels. He stuffs it into his walkman and is soon lost in a world of his own. The fact that he's handed you a spray can seems to indicate he appreciated your gift. Message 66 He screams, "{16}{4}{19}{1}My god, a surviving Dragon! I must preserve this rare species by mating it with a ZX81.{16}{6}{19}{0}" He rushes off, then momentarily returns and hands you some sort of gizmo. Pondering over the subject of a Dragon/ZX81 mating you decide that the offspring would have the capabilities of an Amiga! Message 67 That was a bad idea for as soon as you do its contents, which consists of several lemmings, escape and run west. Message 68 You push open the south flap and find yourself falling head first into the furnace. You can't say you weren't warned. By the way, you're dead... Message 69 You run your hands around the walls and discover exits to the east and south. Message 70 Lawson, the caretaker, is here.^{7} Message 71 ^{7}Lawson goes Message 72 The caretaker, Lawson, doesn't seem at all pleased with this move on your part. In fact, he shouts, "{16}{4}{19}{1}Clear off, you vandal!{16}{6}{19}{0}" and lobs a large object at you. You think it would be best if you left the location and do so, very quickly... Message 73 You've done that already! Message 74 Message 75 This action results in the removal of the door from the wall, and the near removal of your head from your shoulders as the door flies past you. Message 76 The security guard swivels round in his chair and says,^{7}"{16}{4}{19}{1}What are you doing here? This is for authorized personnel only.{16}{6}{19}{0}". Message 77 ^{7}The guard activates the alarm and you're removed from the premises... Message 78 The guard says, "{16}{4}{19}{1}Thanks! I need something good to read on this boring old shift.{16}{6}{19}{0}" In seconds he is engrossed in the fanzine. Message 79 You attach the string to the banger. Message 80 You carefully put the banger into the hot dog. Message 81 Edging forward you drop the hot dog in front of the dog and step back quickly as it grabs hold of the sausage, Message 82 it tucks into it and soon eats the lot. Message 83 there is a loud bang when the banger breaks as the dog pulls on the sausage - it runs off frightened. Message 84 Not past the dog! Message 85 You grab hold of the string that's hanging from the hot dog. Message 86 You run south... Message 87 As you rush into the room you leap onto the trampette and over the chasm... Message 88 You reach out and catch the last of the lemmings just as he's in mid air. The lemming thanks you and hands you his card before jumping off again... Message 89 They have such inspired titles like '{16}{3}{19}{1}Death To The Commies{16}{6}{19}{0}' and ^{7}'{16}{3}{19}{1}Attack Of The Man-eating Turnip From Ealing{16}{6}{19}{0}'. They don't interest you in the slightest. Message 90 Not the Mexican kind, but one-armed and after your money. Maybe it is the Mexican kind? Message 91 It looks like a cross between something out of Star Wars and something from a ten-pin bowling alley. Message 92 It is filled with games like^{7}'{16}{3}{19}{1}Two Haggis's called Fred{16}{6}{19}{0}', '{16}{3}{19}{1}The Clones That Wouldn't Die{16}{6}{19}{0}' and^{7}'{16}{3}{19}{1}The Dork's Demise{16}{6}{19}{0}'. Message 93 A man who, legend has it, once evaporated a whole bottle of scotch without seemingly ever buying a round. Message 94 For some strange reason they're all schizo! Message 95 Not moving (groan!). No, seriously folks, it's bubbling away and purifying alcohol. Message 96 He says, "{16}{4}{19}{1}Don't you just hate spoofs, eh? In one vile sweep, a perfectly ordinary name like Kemp is changed to Unkempt{16}{6}{19}{0}". Message 97 It is filled with copies of the '{16}{3}{19}{1}From Beneath{16}{6}{19}{0}' fanzine and ^{7}'{16}{3}{19}{1}Public Domain Software{16}{6}{19}{0}'. Message 98 Not without Tim's permission. Message 99 I've been informed that it's used when indulging in something called 'exercise' loosely connected to another activity called 'work'. Message 100 They've more muscles than you'd find on the bed of the sea. For any scientists out there, their 'muscles are inversely proportional to their IQs'. Message 101 Behind the cushions on the sofa is a pass. Message 102 It swings outwards. Message 103 Would you believe it, it sells hot dogs! Message 104 The T-shirt he's wearing bears the slogan - '{16}{3}{19}{1}Mike's Sausages - The Hottest Around!{16}{6}{19}{0}'. Message 105 Inside you find a dead budgie and a piece of seed cake. Message 106 He is wearing an '{16}{3}{19}{1}Anthrax{16}{6}{19}{0}' T-shirt and is deeply enthralled in the music he's listening to. Message 107 They are of various shapes and sizes but none look familiar or indeed useful. Message 108 Short, bearded and sporting a faded '{16}{3}{19}{1}TANDY'S ARE TOPS!{16}{6}{19}{0}' T-shirt. Message 109 You hear a faint rustle from within. Message 110 Some prat's gone and opened it, the fool! Message 111 The only remotely interesting thing is some sort of dense material. Message 112 The one to the south feels hot to the touch. Both can be pushed outwards. Message 113 Among the many completely brilliant games here (I should be paid for this you know!) lies one of Delbert's newest titles. Message 114 He looks sort of... well... wait a minute! Look at your tape box, right there's a picture of him. Satisfied? Message 115 He has a spotty gargoyle-like face and is wearing a yellow and red rugby top. Message 116 A message from Frank Carson,^{7}"{16}{4}{19}{1}It's a cracker!{16}{6}{19}{0}". Message 117 He looks bored. Message 118 The magazines many exciting pages have enlivened him and enriched his whole attitude to life (now if FB doesn't pay up it's in trouble)! Message 119 In the arcades you can see a kid pulling faces at the camera. Message 120 You like the cute way that the blood dips off his large fang-like canines! Message 121 It's a long way down, I wouldn't recommend jumping it. Message 122 are blinded by the intense light. You quickly cover your eyes but it's too late, your vision is permanently impaired. With a^{7}"{16}{4}{19}{1}Blow this for a game of ^{7}tennis!{16}{6}{19}{0}" (or equivalent phrase) you leave the game... Message 123 You coat the lenses with black paint. Message 124 As you enter this room you Message 125 You Message 126 {16}{5}This location is filled by a large snake who seems to spend most of his time hissing. That, at least, is what he's doing at the moment and you don't like the way he is slithering towards you. You Message 127 {16}{5}You are in a small room, you Message 128 {16}{5} can go east or west. Message 129 Not passed the snake! Message 130 {16}{5}As you enter this location a hansom cab passes you followed by an ugly balrog. Don't worry! I'm not about to attempt a parody of old Sherlock - not because I've got more taste than to do so but simply because there isn't the memory space. There's plenty of exits though to the north, east, south and west, and in that order. Message 131 {16}{5}You are in the room of many exits. The aforementioned exits lead north, east, south and west. Message 132 It's only exhibits consist of rather boring jazzed-up typewriters. Message 133 He appears to be under the misapprehension that he can sing! Message 134 He's dead. Oh dear, there goes our chances of winning the Eurovision Song Contest. Message 135 Completely and utterly unclimbable (get the hint!). Message 136 They're just the designer's idea of scenery. Message 137 His name's Monty (Well, you did asp!). Message 138 Curiously, when reversed CAB spells BAC. What an amazing world we live in! Message 139 You want to mess with them?!? Message 140 It's rather warm. Message 141 It's a computer-generated character incapable of pseudo-intelligence or speech (rather like the real thing after a night on the town). Message 142 Break glass to open. Message 143 With a swift gulp the reviewer swallows it. Even his iron constitution is unable to cope with the deadly effect of pure alcohol and he dies. Message 144 The reviewer bars your way and says, "{16}{4}{19}{1}Gimme a drink first.{16}{6}{19}{0}"! Message 145 You plant the seed cake in the ground and cover it with soil. Message 146 There is a large plant here, also. Message 147 Using your amazing climbing skills you scale the large plant and find yourself opposite the top of the tree. Message 148 I wouldn't recommend it. Message 149 Near the top you can see a nest. Message 150 You reach across and grab the nest. Message 151 It contains an egg. Message 152 The snake slithers towards you and you are unable to escape. It may comfort you to know that the snake had indigestion for days after... Message 153 In a great reversal of adventuring tradition the bird eats the snake, and then runs off. Message 154 You place the egg on top of the radiator. Message 155 It begins to hatch. Message 156 A large bird has hatched from the egg. It looks at you and cheeps, "{16}{4}{19}{1}Mummy?{16}{6}{19}{0}", and starts following you around. Message 157 A large bird is following you. Message 158 {16}{5}An egg rests on the radiator. Message 159 It's too hot to touch. Message 160 Following the instructions you smash through the glass and press the fire alarm. Within a few seconds the fire bells ring and the building's sprinkler system comes on. Message 161 The security team who've just entered don't look too pleased with your casual use of the fire alarm... Message 162 You climb down from the plant. Message 163 Not from the top of the plant! Message 164 You jump on the trampette, spring high in the air, and remove several chunks of the ceiling. Well done, that was a complete waste of time. Message 165 Certain '{16}{3}{19}{1}public spirited people{16}{6}{19}{0}' would say it was too loud. I'll simply say that it's on at a normal volume. Message 166 He says, "{16}{3}{19}{1}No way, matey. If you think I'm giving help on me own game then yer must be off yer rocker!{16}{6}{19}{0}". Message 167 You pull the cracker. There is a loud bang and out drops a hat and a joke. Message 168 Carefully unrolling the cracker, you take out the hat, banger and joke. Message 169 You lift the picture off the wall but collapse under it's weight. You notice that the string that was holding it up has also fallen to the ground. Message 170 It's too heavy! Message 171 You sneakily pinch one of the aforementioned crackers while Gareth isn't watching! Message 172 You get the glasses from the 'Smartos' packet. Message 173 From where? Message 174 You remove the glasses and all becomes clear... Message 175 Not while wearing them! Message 176 The last lemming jumps off the cliff... Message 177 It is of that lovable hamster, Delbert. Well, what did you expect in one of his games? Message 178 You give Delbert's new game to the adventure playtesters. Within seconds they are busy trying it out. Message 179 I wouldn't if I were you. Oh well, if you insist. As you walk passed the stall one of the women raises her wand and casts a spell. In seconds you are turned into a frog. You can't say I never toad you so!... Message 180 {16}{5}Well done! You've reached the stall of the company that is publishing your game.^{7} Message 181 {16}{5}It has the words '{16}{3}{19}{1}Zenzino{16}{5}{19}{0}' written above it. The Balrog staggers up. "{16}{4}{19}{1}Microfair Madness! Nah, it'll never sell matey. It's only got one toilet in it!! Sounds more like Delbert material to me.{16}{5}{19}{0}" Oh well, at least you've completed this game... Message 182 {16}{5}The publisher turns to you. "{16}{4}{19}{1}Ah yes, the Spectrum programmer! I'm afraid that we're pulling out of the Speccy adventure market so we won't be publishing your game after all.{16}{5}{19}{0}".^{7}Oh well, you can't have a happy ending every time... Message 183 {16}{5}Wait a minute! Why is everyone packing up? "{16}{4}{19}{1}Sorry mate!{16}{5}{19}{0}" says one of the men, "{16}{4}{19}{1}But the companies just gone bust.{16}{5}{19}{0}"^{7}Oh well, you'll have to sell your game to Delbert... Message 184 {16}{5}{19}{1}{144}{144}{144}{144}{144}{144}{144}{144}{144}{144}{144}{144}{144}{144}{144}{144}^{7} {16}{6}CONGRATULATIONS!^{7} {16}{5}{144}{144}{144}{144}{144}{144}{144}{144}{144}{144}{144}{144}{144}{144}{144}{144}^{7}^{7}^{7}{16}{7}You have completed Microfair Madness. Watch out for other D.T.H.S. games coming soon!^{7}^{7} Message 185 Eggshell rests on the radiator. Message 186 ^{7} {16}{7}OR DIE TRYING... Message 187 {16}{6}"{16}{7}{19}{1}The Quest For The Holy Snail{16}{6}{19}{0}" {16}{5} Message 188 It slips down over your head and lies round your neck - I guess you could say you're now wearing it! Message 189 How? Message 190 It is attached to the wall. Message 191 He's rather fat and is carrying a battered old suitcase. Message 192 You put on the glasses and find that you can't see a thing. During this phase a small boy runs behind you and shouts "{16}{4}{19}{1}BOO!!!{16}{6}{19}{0}". You decide it would be better for your nerves if you take the glasses off, and do so. Message 193 Before you do, you remove the glasses so as to see where you are going... Message 194 It is a really yucky brown colour and has '{16}{3}{19}{1}JS{16}{6}{19}{0}' written on it in orange. Message 195 In the carrier is a packet of 'Smartos'. Message 196 A chair is a chair. Message 197 The type that Edward would have instead of hands. Message 198 An ordinary stapler. Message 199 It has the words '{16}{3}{19}{1}Welcome to the Silent Corner{16}{6}{19}{0}' on it. Message 200 It is the terror of all adventure programmers. It lurks in dark corners during development and waits until it goes for review till it jumps out and performs a song and dance routine in front of the reviewer. Message 201 It looks as though it might have been used for catching fish. Message 202 It's for undoing any tight nuts you may have. Message 203 Message 204 Message 205 Message 206 If you had enough you might hang yourself. Message 207 The type of crowbar found in many adventures, usually used for prising something open. Message 208 It's rather large (oo-er!). Message 209 A dead end if ever I saw one. Message 210 The arches are high up, well above your head height. Message 211 Tucked into one of the arches you find a carrier bag. Message 212 It's attached to the wall. Message 213 You rummage around in the pile of games and pull out some scissors. Message 214 You rummage around in the pile of games and pull out a stapler. Message 215 Rummaging around the crates you find a net. Message 216 On the side of it is a sign. The sign reads '{16}{3}{19}{1}For Sale - One paddle-steamer (for use in adventure). Only one previous owner. {96}1,000 ono.{16}{6}{19}{0}'. Message 217 Climb up and have a look, stupid! Message 218 It is large and is fixed to the side of the boat with a nut and bolt. It's obviously for show only - as the whole boat is - but what do you expect in a low budget adventure? Message 219 In the cupboard you find a spanner. Message 220 Searching through the straw you find a rope. Message 221 Quite ordinary. Message 222 He looks depressed. He can't feed his kids you see, as he spent all his money paying the pole tax. Message 223 Scott sees the sticker pasted on the door, "{16}{4}{19}{1}There's no way I'm having that m'lad!{16}{6}{19}{0}". Message 224 With what? Message 225 No matter how hard you try you can't seem to get the box open. Message 226 Delbert says, "{16}{4}{19}{1}You'll have to send me an sae for a ^{7}helpsheet!{16}{6}{19}{0}". Message 227 Delbert is overjoyed, he'd lost his hamster wheel and the wheel you've given him will fit in his (large) cage. He takes out his pencil and after several seconds of scrawling and scribbling, passes you a note. He then pushes the wheel into his secret hiding place. Message 228 You open the door and enter the blackness within... Message 229 Before you, you see Marlin the Wizard. "{16}{4}{19}{1}Aha!{16}{6}{19}{0}" he says, "{16}{4}{19}{1}A young adventurer to undertake my quest.{16}{6}{19}{0}" He then bashes you on the head... Message 230 You can't seem to remove the door from the wall. Message 231 You'll need to position it correctly first. Message 232 You stand on the chair. From this position you can reach the arches. Message 233 You move the chair so that it's positioned underneath the arches (cue song). Message 234 You get off the chair. Message 235 You can't, birdbrain. It's attached to the wall. Message 236 You make several grunting noises but nothing much seems to happen. Message 237 You pull at the chair, and this time you are rewarded by being flung across the room as the chair comes off the wall. Message 238 You wrap the mat round the lower half of your body. Message 239 ^{7}The mat falls to the ground. Message 240 You staple the mat so it remains in place. Message 241 No way! Your middle-wicket's for you to see and nobody else. Message 242 Where? Message 243 You cut the carrier bag and amazingly when you've finished snipping away, you find that it's the perfect shape for a makeshift shirt. Message 244 No way! You don't want anyone to see your bare chest. Message 245 You take a flying leap and somehow, when you've landed, you find yourself on a jetty... Message 246 You use the spanner to unscrew the nut and bolt holding the wheel in place. With a great crash the wheel comes off the side of the boat and crashes down into the river. Message 247 You tie the rope round the inside of the wheel. Message 248 To what? Message 249 With what? Message 250 You pull on the rope. Slowly, the wheel rises up out of the water and after several minutes work you manage to pull it onto deck. You decide to untie the rope from the wheel... Message 251 As the rope is tied to the wheel, you drop it as you leave the location... Message 252 It's sunk to the bottom of the river. Message 253 You manage to pick up the rather large water-wheel and, after staggering around for a few seconds, finally secure a steady position. Message 254 The barman looks at the money.^{7}"{16}{4}{19}{1}That's no good to me, guv. System Message 61 There is a rather fierce-looking dog here, and you can tell by its snarls that it isn't the type of dog that goes in for playing with toilet rolls. System Message 62 The exits are, as normal, to the north and south. System Message 63 {16}{5}In this section of the hallway a drunken reviewer staggers about singing something that sounds a lot like '{16}{4}{19}{1}Hold my hand very tightly!{16}{5}{19}{0}' and wildly whistling between verses. System Message 64 {16}{5}In this section of the hallway you can see a dead reviewer (arguably the best sort, some would say - the same someones whose games get poor reviews no doubt!). System Message 65 Exits are visible in the directions of North, East, South and West. System Message 66 To the north is the ^{7}'{16}{3}{19}{1}Delbert{16}{5}{19}{0}' stall and to the south is a room marked '{16}{3}{19}{1}Caretaker{16}{5}{19}{0}'. System Message 69 System Message 70 This is just as well as you couldn't have taken the snide comments about your nakedness. System Message 71 There is a huge pile of games behind the stall here. System Message 72 {16}{5}From this part of the deck you can see a huge water-wheel. System Message 73 {16}{5}To the north and south lie further parts of the deck. System Message 74 {16}{5} On the bar you see a pasted notice which says '{16}{3}{19}{1}For Sale{16}{5}{19}{0}'. I can't afford to keep the family.{16}{5}{19}{0}" System Message 75 It is empty and you can see why - a large ugly bug is here. System Message 76 It has a small sticker which reads '{16}{3}{19}{1}Property of Delbert T. Hamster.{16}{6}{19}{0}' on it. System Message 77 You've beamed down to the microfair and have started to walk around. As you enter a room a woman screams, "{16}{4}{19}{1}Arrgh! He's got no clothes on!{16}{6}{19}{0}". Looking down you see it's true - your clothes weren't beamed down with you. You run quickly out of the location and away from the crude comments thrown at you from the various passing adventurers... System Message 78 The location you've just entered has several people who seem rather surprised by your lack of proper attire. Covering your middle-wicket with your hand you rush out of the location... System Message 79 What is here is a chair next to the northern wall. System Message 80 You give the bug to the barman.^{7}"{16}{4}{19}{1}Thanks!{16}{6}{19}{0}" he says. "{16}{4}{19}{1}That'll feed my kids for a month. Here, have this bar!{16}{6}{19}{0}" You glance around at the packed pub. Just think how much money you'll make out of it! "{16}{4}{19}{1}No, no mate.{16}{6}{19}{0}" says the barman, "{16}{4}{19}{1}THIS bar!{16}{6}{19}{0}". He hands you a small crowbar. System Message 81 How? System Message 82 You fling the net over the huge bug, and manage to capture ^{7}it... System Message 83 Where? System Message 84 You drop the bug and it scurries off, back to the programmer's suite. System Message 85 A door leads south. System Message 86 It scurries from reach.^{7} System Message 87 You peel the sticker off the door and discard it. System Message 88 The huge menacing form of the {16}{4}{19}{1}Bleak Night{16}{7}{19}{0} stands before the castle gate. System Message 89 {16}{7} The {16}{4}{19}{1}Bleak Night{16}{7}{19}{0} lies dead on the ground here. System Message 90 A huge stone block is here, and in the stone is the fabled sword {16}{4}{19}{1}Excalibur{16}{7}{19}{0}. System Message 91 The dusty track lies to the east. System Message 92 It is a large iron key.^{7} System Message 93 It is your flexible friend accepted by all good Adventure supply shops. System Message 94 It is an old oil lamp. System Message 95 It is full of oil. System Message 96 On one side of the coin is a picture of a gargoyle and on the other is a scantily clad elf. System Message 97 It is good strong beer. System Message 98 It is the fabled Excalibur whose magical powers are legendary. System Message 99 Stringy! System Message 100 As seen in '{16}{3}{19}{1}Arnold the Adventurer{16}{7}{19}{0}'. We've re-used them to save time and above all - money! System Message 101 It's the type you rest your head on when sleeping in a bed. System Message 102 It consists of several sheets tied together. System Message 103 It reminds you of the ones in all those Disney movies. System Message 104 It is a huge iron gate which will look familiar to any Delbert games fans. System Message 105 The Bleak Night says, "{16}{4}{19}{1}Never accept a job to star in a bog standard adventure.{16}{6}{19}{0}" System Message 106 He's kicked the bucket. System Message 107 They're real collectors' items. They're way out of your credit limit though. System Message 108 He looks just like the one out of '{16}{3}{19}{1}Mr Benn{16}{7}{19}{0}'! System Message 109 I'd buy it if I were you! System Message 110 Just scenery. And pretty tatty scenery at that!^{7} System Message 111 An inscription on it reads,^{7}'{16}{3}Whoever pulls this here sword out of this stone will be crowned King of England or somethink.{16}{7}{19}{0}'. System Message 112 He's an old adventurer who always enjoys a good yarn. System Message 113 On it are several stained sheets and a pillow. System Message 114 It's positioned underneath the chimney. System Message 115 It's a long shaft which goes up to the roof. System Message 116 It appears to be blocked. System Message 117 Outside, several metres below, you can see a sandy beach. System Message 118 How boring!^{7} System Message 119 As used in an advert for a certain beer.^{7} System Message 120 The Bleak Night says, "{16}{4}{19}{1}Wait a minute. According to my contract I'm not allowed to let you do that!{16}{6}{19}{0}". He bashes you on the head. System Message 121 You unlock the gate and walk through... System Message 122 {16}{7}You are in a large brightly lit chamber. On a pedestal is the {16}{6}{19}{1}Holy Snail{16}{7}{19}{0}. You pick it up and then go back outside the castle.^{7} System Message 123 ^{7}{16}{7}There is a bright flash and Marlin appears. Hurriedly he attempts to put out the flames on his robes using his hat.^{7} System Message 124 ^{7}{16}{7}"{16}{4}{19}{1}Well done, young adventurer!{16}{7}{19}{0}" he says, grabbing the snail. "{16}{4}{19}{1}You will be well rewarded.{16}{7}{19}{0}" He reaches into his pocket but he's got no loose change, so he merely gives you a swift kick up the bum, out through the black door which he magically called up.^{7} System Message 125 ^{7}{16}{7}Oh well, who said adventuring paid?... System Message 126 The Bleak Night watches as you smash into the iron gate blocking the way north. System Message 127 You smash into the iron gate blocking your way. System Message 128 You give the beer to the Night. "{16}{4}{19}{1}Cheers!{16}{6}{19}{0}" he says, "{16}{4}{19}{1}This job is thirsty work.{16}{6}{19}{0}" It's not long before Gordo's secret ingredient takes effect and the Bleak Night drops dead. System Message 129 You don't have enough money. System Message 130 With a quick "{16}{4}{19}{1}Does you does or does you don't?{16}{6}{19}{0}" you pass the credit card to the shopkeeper. He swipes the card (quite literally) and with a "{16}{4}{19}{1}Yes I bloomin' does!{16}{6}{19}{0}" gives you the lamp. System Message 131 Your credit limit doesn't extend that far. Why would you want to buy them anyway? System Message 132 You grab hold of the sword and give it a tug but it won't budge. System Message 133 The sword comes smoothly out of the stone. See, all it needed was a bit of thinkin' - none of that King of England lark. System Message 134 OK - well, what sort of a response did you expect? System Message 135 What with, fresh air? System Message 136 You ask the barman, "{16}{4}{19}{1}Does you does or does you don't.{16}{6}{19}{0}"^{7}"{16}{4}{19}{1}No I flippin' well doesn't!{16}{6}{19}{0}" replies Gordo. System Message 137 You give the Gordo the coin and he gives you a mug of beer. System Message 138 You drink the beer and Gordo's special ingredient gets to work. Unfortunately, Gordo's ingredient consists largely of highly toxic substances. When you're dead he empties your pockets as well... System Message 139 Gordo always likes a good yarn and he likes your string as well. In return he gives you a key. System Message 140 You push your hand up the chimney and you pull out the object. It is a piece of string. System Message 141 You get down on your hands and knees and crawl half-way under your bed. You feel around every nook and cranny. The chambermaid who's just entered the room seems amused by this procedure and runs to tell all the customers in the bar about it. System Message 142 In a fit of uncontrolled violence (have you been playing this game too long, then?) you tear the pillow to shreds. In the ruins of it you find a credit card. System Message 143 You tie the sheets together to form a makeshift rope. System Message 144 You tie the rope to the bed.^{7} System Message 145 You open the window. System Message 146 Just for the record, the window is open System Message 147 , and some sheets are tied to the bed System Message 148 and some sheets that are tied to the bed are hanging out of it System Message 149 Just for the record, the window is closed System Message 150 . System Message 151 You let the rope drop out of the window. System Message 152 It dangles down to the floor below.^{7} System Message 153 It lands in a heap on the floor below.^{7} System Message 154 You climb down the rope to the sandy beach below... System Message 155 You climb up the rope and back into the room... System Message 156 You throw the sword into the lake. A hand emerges and misses the sword.^{7}"{16}{4}{19}{1}Damn!{16}{6}{19}{0}" mutters the '{16}{3}{19}{1}Lady of the Lake{16}{6}{19}{0}' as she searches under the water for it. She finally finds it and tosses you a coin. "{16}{4}{19}{1}There's your deposit back. Please call again!{16}{6}{19}{0}"... System Message 157 On the way down a passing guardian angel sees your plight and takes pity on you. Grabbing you by the hair it lifts you upwards... System Message 158 About half-way to the top you hear a hooter. "{16}{4}{19}{1}That's the end of my shift.{16}{6}{19}{0}" says the angel.^{7}"{16}{4}{19}{1}I'm off!{16}{6}{19}{0}" and so saying it lets go of you and zooms upwards. You zoom downwards. Various 'shoot 'em up' machines stand here and are surrounded by a large gang of white-faced acne-ridden kids. Those sort of games are beneath you, however the one-armed bandit that's also here looks more like your style. On the ceiling a security camera watches over the room. The door leads out to the south. Location 18 {16}{5}This is the second floor of Sir Clive's most successful project since the C5. A large plaque here proclaims that the centre was '{16}{3}{19}{1}Opened in 1988 by the Mayor of Bexhill-on-sea{16}{5}{19}{0}'. Posted below that is a small sign which says, "{19}{1}{16}{3}Closed by the local Health Authority in 1991{16}{5}{19}{0}'. The main hallway lies to the south while a small corridor is to the north. Location 19 {16}{5}You are in one of those space-filling rooms that an adventure author normally has left empty at the end of the design stage. Instead of filling it with a puzzle or with a witty type location the designers opted for the '{16}{4}{19}{1}This is an empty room. Exits lie to the north and east.{16}{5}{19}{0}' message. Location 20 {16}{5}This is Spartan Software's stall. Several people are standing here being interviewed by Spartan's bossman Mr Scott Free. The stall is virtually empty but behind it a still bubbles away nicely. There's another stall to the east and also an exit to the west. Location 21 {16}{5}The stall belonging to the^{7}'{16}{3}{19}{1}From Beneath{16}{5}{19}{0}' fanzine stands here. It is manned by Tim Unkempt, ace adventurer and reviewer of many games (including this one - hence the 'ace adventurer' bit). Location 22 {16}{5}The main hallway goes south from here while to the east there is a gym and to the west some computer stalls. Location 23 {16}{5}This is the gym. Around you are the various methods of torture posing as exercise equipment. Also here is a substantial number of muscle-bound prats whose collective IQ can be expressed as a fraction. The far part of the gym lies to the east while the gym exit lies to the west. Location 24 {16}{5}You are at the east end of the gym. It takes all the courage you possess to stand here and watch these poor people attempt to get themselves fit and turn 18 stone of jelly into a well-developed physique. Location 25 {16}{5}This location links the location to the north quite nicely with that to the south. Location 26 {16}{5}A large sign proclaims this room '{16}{3}{19}{1}off limits to reviewers{16}{5}{19}{0}' and you can see why. It is occupied by a large and very expensive sofa which would easily by wrecked in under two picoseconds by a beer drinking reviewer. To act as a further safeguard, there is a sign on the sofa which reads '{16}{3}{19}{1}Hands (and other appendages and body-type bits) off!{16}{5}{19}{0}', and also a security camera on the wall here. Location 27 {16}{5}This is another meaningful location which has exits to the north, east and west. On the south wall you can see two hinges and what appears to be a large flap. Location 28 {16}{5}The major part of this room is occupied by a large hot dog stall behind which stands a tall man wearing a T-shirt advertising the stall. The main hallway lies to the east while another location is to the west. Location 29 {16}{5}At this point down the main hallway the designer has been adventurous and added not only exits to the north and south but also some to the east and west. Location 30 {16}{5}Hanging from a hook high up on the ceiling in this location is a birdcage. Quite why it's here is anyone's guess but why spend time pondering over questions like that when there are more important ones to consider. Why, for example, if Codemaster's games are so fab etc do they release them on budget instead of raking in the dosh at full price, eh? Non-philosophers might be more interested in the exits to the east and west. Location 31 {16}{5}The loud noise that assaults your ears in this room appears to be originating from the walkman of a long-haired being sitting against the wall here. Other things worth noting down on the old map include the '{16}{3}{19}{1}Design Research Centre{16}{5}{19}{0}' to the north and the small corridors leading to the east and west. Location 32 {16}{5}This is the '{16}{3}{19}{1}Design Research Centre{16}{5}{19}{0}' where several boffins are carrying out new designs for computers. The place is littered with electronic components and gadgets which cover the many lab benches. The professor of computer history is here. The door lies to the south. Location 33 {16}{5}In the centre of the room stands a small box. A multitude of signs point towards it saying,^{7}'{16}{3}{19}{1}Do not touch{16}{5}{19}{0}', '{16}{3}{19}{1}Open at your peril{16}{5}{19}{0}' and '{16}{3}{19}{1}Fragile adventure supplies{16}{5}{19}{0}'. Do you think they're trying to tell you something? The only exit is to the west. Location 34 {16}{5}This place is a dump. I mean that quite literally. If you took two coach-loads of savage, hungry wildebeests and let them loose in a room filled with their favourite snack they wouldn't make anywhere near as much mess as this. There are two flaps here, one on the north wall and one on the south wall. Location 35 {16}{5}To relieve the boredom produced by another 'main hallway' location the designer has seen fit to add a room here. It doesn't add anything to the gameplay but at least it means I can say '{16}{4}{19}{1}You are in a wide room with a high ceiling{16}{5}{19}{0}' instead of '{16}{4}{19}{1}You are in the main hallway{16}{5}{19}{0}'. The exits are still north and south though. Location 36 Location 37 {16}{5}You are in a room just west of the main hallway. You can see bright lights streaming out of the room to the west. Location 38 {16}{5}This is the flippin' main hallway again. What more can I say, except that the exits lie to the north, east, south and west. Location 39 {16}{5}Upon entering this room you experience a feeling of deja vu. Yes, it's the old '{16}{3}{19}{1}Delbert The Hamster{16}{5}{19}{0}' stall again. Behind it, this time, stands the hamster in question (For all of you out there who are slow on the uptake, his name is Delbert). To the east lies the back of the stall while the extremely interesting main hallway lies to the west. Location 40 {16}{5}You are behind the '{16}{3}{19}{1}Delbert The Hamster{16}{5}{19}{0}' stall. In this location, you can see Gareth (of the Pitchford variety) who is seated at the table busily copying down jokes from Christmas crackers. Location 41 Location 42 {16}{5}You are in yet another one of the main hallway locations. If variety is the spice of life then the designers obviously got it mixed up with curry powder. Exits lead north and south. Location 43 {16}{5}This room is painted completely black. Location 44 {16}{5}This is the security surveillance room. Location 45 {16}{5}You are over half-way down the main hallway. Location 46 {16}{5}This is Lawson's room, which consists of a few hanging pictures and a battered old desk. Glancing at the desk you see a scribbled '{16}{3}{19}{1}1+1=3{16}{5}{19}{0}'. Oh well, Lawson never was much good with figures. The door out is to the north. Location 47 {16}{5}In this location you are rather surprised by the presence of a large chasm, which runs right through the room. Large signs on the opposite wall proclaim the cliff as being one of '{16}{3}{19}{1}Gordon's Adventure Supplies'{16}{5}{19}{0}' exhibits. The main hallway continues north and also to the south, on the other side of the cliff. Location 48 {16}{5}You are on the other side of the cliff. The main hallway continues to the south. Location 49 {16}{5}This is the '{16}{3}{19}{1}Damn Sad{16}{5}{19}{0}' stall - I wouldn't bother looking at it if I were you - the people who run it claim to have never heard of the Speccy. Not that there's anyone here at the moment! All that you can hear is a rubbishy tune playing, actually it sounds a lot like '{16}{3}{19}{1}hold{16}{5}{19}{0}' music. The best way out of here is to the east. Location 50 Location 51 {16}{5}You are in the botanical gardens which appear to have grown rather out of control. Yet another of those amazing unclimbable trees is here in this location. The exit is just visible, through the plants, to the west. Location 52 Location 53 Location 54 Location 55 {16}{5}This is the stall belonging to^{7}'{16}{3}{19}{1}Adventure Prise{16}{5}{19}{0}' magazine. Two women are standing behind the stall here. One is dressed in a sorceress's outfit and is brandishing a wand. The other is standing in Victorian dress! The back room lies behind the stall to the east, while to the west is the infamous main hallway. Location 56 {16}{5}You are behind the '{16}{3}{19}{1}Adventure Prise{16}{5}{19}{0}' stall. On the east wall there is a radiator and a Balrog sits by it warming his claws on the hot metal bars and his insides with a flask of substance of dubious origin. Could this be the great Balrog himself? - He certainly is wearing a posing pouch so it might well be! The main part of the stall is to the west. Location 57 {16}{5}My goodness! You've finally reached the end of the main hallway! On the wall here is a fire alarm button, to the north the main hallway goes...erm... northwards. Location 58 {16}{5}You are in a small corridor which leads to a brick wall. The roof is high and arched. The only exit is east. Location 59 {16}{5}This room has the appearance of a waiting room, minus one important feature; the hundred year old periodicals that normally occupy these places. Location 60 {16}{5}A large sign proclaims this as being '{16}{3}{19}{1}The Silent Corner{16}{5}{19}{0}'. Indeed it is, as a man who stands behind the stall here has a sign round his neck which says '{16}{3}{19}{1}I cannot speak due to memory restrictions!{16}{5}{19}{0}'. Location 61 {16}{5}You are in a small corridor which leads north. A large sign here says '{16}{3}{19}{1}There's some extra 128k locations ahead, folks!{16}{5}{19}{0}'. Location 62 {16}{5}You are standing at the front of the boat. It does have some technical name like 'bow' or 'stern' but I don't know it - I'm a computer, not an encyclopaedia. Various crates and boxes lie here and the exit is to the south. Location 63 {16}{5}You are rather surprised to find yourself standing on a jetty. Tied up here, to the east, is a small paddle-steamer. A corridor leads back west into the rather more sensible confines of the microfair. Location 64 {16}{5}This is the deck of the paddle-steamer. A long pole is here, which leads up to the crow's-nest. It looks rather wierd and out of place next to the funnel. The boat leads north and south, while a jetty is to the west. Location 65 {16}{5}You are standing near the southern end of the paddle-steamer. Location 66 {16}{5}This is the southern end of the paddle-steamer. Not much is here apart from a small cupboard. Location 67 {16}{5}You are in the '{16}{3}{19}{1}Crow's-nest{16}{5}{19}{0}'. Hay and straw is in abundance here, obviously. The pole on which the nest is affixed continues skywards, and also down, surprisingly enough. Location 68 {16}{5}This is the '{16}{3}{19}{1}Crow's bar{16}{5}{19}{0}' and as you would expect it is filled with several crows drinking alcohol. Location 69 {16}{5}You are in the programmer's suite. Location 70 ^{7}{16}{7}You are standing in front of a huge castle. A gate leads into it to the north, while a path leads back to the south. Location 71 ^{7}{16}{7}This is '{16}{4}{19}{1}Ye Old Adventure Shop{16}{7}{19}{0}'. Around you, you can see various objects of adventuring interest but what catches your eye is a special offer on a lamp. The shopkeeper stands here, hovering over you in great shopkeeper style. Location 72 ^{7}{16}{7}You are standing in a grove of trees. Location 73 ^{7}{16}{7}You are on a dusty track, which is a song on your LP which hasn't been cleaned for a while. Oh well, it's an old joke but a new location. To the north there lies a castle, while to the east, west and south there... erm... doesn't lie a castle. Location 74 ^{7}{16}{7}This is a grassy plain, minus wings and engine. To the north stands '{16}{4}{19}{1}Ye Old Adventure Shop{16}{7}{19}{0}', while to the west is the dusty track. Location 75 ^{7}{16}{7}You are in the '{16}{4}{19}{1}Prancing Prat Inn{16}{7}{19}{0}'. Behind the bar located here stands Gordo (he of the great belly). To the north is the Inn door while to the south is the guest room. Location 76 ^{7}{16}{7}You are in the guest room of the '{16}{4}{19}{1}Prancing Prat Inn{16}{7}{19}{0}'. There's not much here save the old creaky bed and the fireplace. A window, cleverly situated in the wall, overlooks a sandy beach. Location 77 ^{7}{16}{7}This is a small sandy beach which surrounds a lake. Up a wall you can see the window leading into the '{16}{4}{19}{1}Prancing Prat Inn{16}{7}{19}{0}'.
