THE GOLDEN PYRAMID Written by Laurence Creighton. Available from Zenobi Software, 26 Spotland Tops, Cutgate, Rochdale, Lancs, OL12 7NX Reviewed by David Haire You have returned from your much-acclamied expedition to Peru. The Mask of the Sun God has been safely handed to the curator of the British Museum. It isn't long before you hear of the GOLDEN PYRAMID deep in the heart of Central Africa. A pilot agrees to fly you there, telling you that there is no landing strip in that area at all. No problem you decide; you will use a parachute and jump out. Your plane flies as low as it can; the pilot gives you a nod and you jump... You land in the branches of a tall tree, and this poses the first problem of the adventure - how to get down. This is achieved fairly easily, although that hovering bird looks as if it might well be guarding something. This adventure was written using the Quill, so input is restricted to Verb Noun, but this is perfectly adequate. Most of the more common inputs have been abbreviated, for example G can be used instead of GET, and there are few places where more complex inputs would be useful. On the plus side, the location texts are descriptive without being over-long, and there are plenty of puzzles to keep you occupied. On the minus side, there are too many long pauses for my liking. The sound effects can get a bit irritating, as can the lightning that crops up after a time. Altogether, not one of the best adventures I have played, but definitely not one of the worst. As long as you can stand the annoying features, this adventure could well be one of your better buys.
