************************************* * Spectrum "Conversions" for Sale * ************************************* After last months article about converting Spectrum PAW Adventure's, we thought that it may be wise to find out how we stand legally in doing this and also if there is any chance of offering converted adventures to members. Legally.. You can obviously alter games that you have written yourself, but if you alter a database that belongs to someone else without permission, then you are infringing copywrite. So now we know this, I approached John Wilson of ZENOBI SOFTWARE to ask for permission to "convert" some of his games and also if we could sell the original tapes AND a converted version on disk. John was very happy to help us and gave me permission to convert some of the ZENOBI games that we had asked for. We have a signed contract of agreement that covers these title's and a bit of good news is that we can supply the games on disk alone, rather than having the added expense of supplying the cassette as well. More titles are in the pipeline, but these three are the first that we are able to supply:- AGATHA's FOLLY by Linda Wright THE JADE STONE by Linda Wright TREASURE ISLAND by Jack Lockerby These are all two part games and our price to non-members is `2.99 each. The price for members who quote their membership number is `2.45 each or just `7.00 for all three. Please make cheques or postal orders payable to S WHITMORE and send them to SCAC Software 3 Pass Way St Helens LANCASHIRE WA11 7HL The games are supplied as one game to one disk, with just he printed label - to keep down costs (and also because no one would tell me where I can get boxes at a reasonabe price). As royalties, licence fee's, disk and postage costs make up the vast majority of the price, there will be very little profit but any money over will be put to one side for Club use. Please note that these disks will require the user to put a copy of the "ROM" code file from SC_SPECLONE. If you dont have SC_SPECLONE then there is also a file supplied on each disk that will change a standard copy of the Spectrum 48K ROM to the necessary file. There is some more good news regarding converted adventure's. David Ledbury has just been in touch to tell me about the deal QUEST software has made with Delbert the Hamster (Scott Denyer). The "deal" is that QUEST will supply Plus D and SAM (conversion) titles from Delbert the Hamster on disk, and Delbert will supply the QUEST titles on tape. Sounds very interesting! I hope we can tell you exactly what's on offer next issue. Dave Whitmore
